The left first girl in the above photo is Bujjamma. They are residents of Tataya Colony in Singarayakonda Mandal, Old Singarayakonda Panchayat. Their parents live by catching rats in the fields and fish in the pond. Bujjamma was educated from class one to class five in a government school near her home. Our GRAPES organization does various welfare activities in the village where they live. Food for education is a part of it. On one occasion we visited a school where they were studying. We also provide free school kits to children every year. Bujjamma completed his 5th class. She discontinued to school. The school teacher was shocked to see her condition.
The real reason was realized when the GRAPES Team spoke to her parents face to face. To study 6th class in higher school, There is 3 km of distance from her home to reach the school. Their parents pleaded that going on foot every day would be a burden. Then the members of our organization presented a bicycle to the girls with the help of Ms. Sreelata Chebrol (Kriti Social Initiatives) so that they would not have to stay away from school.
Apart from Bujjamma, fellow students Ravanamma, Chitti thalli, Lakshmi were also presented with bicycles. With this help, GRAPES played an important role in paving the way for them to go back to school.
